Dear Hawkins Family,

It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of a very dear friend of my family and my studio.  Jon Wood passed away on June 29th.  Most of you do not know of the many blessings that the Wood family brought to the Hawkins school, and most particularly to my ballet company.

Jon’s daughter Katie danced with my ballet company in the early years of 2000 when it began as the Folsom Lake Civic Ballet.  Jon’s wife, Deb, said to me after a ballet performance. that Jon was interested in becoming involved with the ballet company and “When Jon has a cause, watch out!”   And so began Jon’s tireless, exhaustive  work – expanding the ballet’s influence in the community as board president and drawing in both the contemporary and tap companies under the umbrella organization “Stages – Northern California Performing Arts.”

When the Wood family relocated to Maryland, the non-profit organization was closed.  However, Luke’s and my friendship with Jon, Deb, Katie, Ben and Sam continued on both coasts and has stood the test of time and distance.  Over the years, Jon continued to volunteer for youth organizations.  He was an active member of The Boys’ Latin School of Maryland community, where he volunteered with the Parents’ Association and helped with the development activities to support the boys.

Jon’s capacity for endless devotion to causes he believed in will always be remembered.  May Jon rest in peace, and may his family be comforted knowing how much he meant to so many.
